What Is Botox?

Botox is a protein created by Clostridium botulinum. When used in small, diluted doses, this protein can be safely injected into muscle tissue. Once injected, the Botox will help to control the muscle's strength by blocking nerve signals. Facial muscles will then be temporarily unable to contract, causing instant softening of wrinkles and fine lines. Botox is also widely used for a range of medical benefits including relief from migraines, TMJ and cerebral palsy.

Benefits of Botox

Botox is most often used to reduce wrinkles and lines, specifically crow's feet, frown lines and forehead wrinkles. Botox injections can be performed in just a few minutes time and requires no anesthesia. This makes Botox an incredible alternative to surgical face lifts and other cosmetic procedures, as there are fewer medical risks and clients can return to their normal routine right away.

What to Expect

It is recommended that clients abstain from alcohol consumption, aspirin and some anti-inflammatory medications to reduce bruising. A qualified specialist will then administer the Botox, targeting specific area of muscle tissue to customize the results according to your needs. It's important to avoid touching the treated area for 12 hours following the appointment. Results from Botox can be seen very quickly and will remain for four to six months. Therefore, clients can expect to schedule treatments once or twice per year for maximum results. Over time, the period between treatments may widen, as muscles become accustomed to a relaxed state. This makes Botox excellent for both reduction of existing wrinkles and prevention of newly developing lines. Consult with a trained professional to find out if you are a candidate for Botox, and to discover what Botox treatments can do for you.
