What To Expect From Your Pro-Operation Appointment

It can be daunting to go through this procedure without knowing what to expect. Don't worry - we will be walking you through the process to make sure you are completely comfortable and ready, mentally and physically, for your operation.

-Pre-surgical measurements: To track your progress throughout the surgery and post-surgery, we will begin with taking some key measurements including your weight. We will take a set of "before" photos that you should store in a safe place for future reference. You should receive these photos at your one- or three-week visit.

-Lab Work and Physical Exam: The doctor will vet you and run through some health-related questions. You will receive a brief medical exam where the doctor will inspect some vital organs such as your heart and lungs to determine whether any precautions need to be taken before heading into the operation room.

-Prescription: Some patients experience mild pain through this process; the doctor will give you prescription for pain medication in the event that you want to mitigate any such feelings. You need not worry about any antibiotics for this type of procedure.

-Body Cleanser: The doctor will ask you to wash the surgical regions with a Betadine body cleanser, provided by us, for the 3 days before your operation, including the morning of surgery. The Betadine cleanser will not leave any marks or stains on your body and should be rinsed off like regular soap.

-Overview of Surgical Plan and Recovery: The professionals at the Harley Institute want you to be completely at ease. The doctor will talk you through what you should expect during and after your surgery. We want you to leave the pre-operation appointment with a full understanding of what to expect.

-Questions and Answers: Our goal is to make sure you are well-informed. If there are any lingering questions or concerns, you are 100% invited to ask them during this time. Don't be shy - we love, love, love to help!

The Week Before: Action Items!

As mentioned earlier, you should wash your surgical regions with the Betadine cleansers given to you by the doctor for the three days before your operation day, including the morning of your surgery. Additionally, begin taking an iron supplement and refrain from taking any blood thinners. Blood thinners include Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, and other NSAIDS. Also stop taking any Vitamin E and fish oil. We ask that you not eat or drink anything from midnight the night before your surgery. Please give us a call if you are unsure about anything and need clarification.

Finally, because liposculpture is performed under general anesthesia, you should make arrangements for reliable transportation to your home after surgery. We recommend that you have a responsible adult stay with you and supervise for the first 24 hours after surgery.

Your friends at the Harley Institute are thrilled to be by your side during this time and we look forward to answering any questions or concerns you may have. See you soon!
