How Radiesse Works

Radiesse treatment does work as a dermal filler that occupies space beneath the skin to temporarily plump wrinkles and restore lost volume. While Radiesse accomplishes these immediate goals, its true innovation lies in what happens after the initial injection.

The science behind Radiesse centers on calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), a biocompatible substance composed of microscopic spheres suspended in a smooth gel carrier. This gel immediately provides the volume correction you're looking for. Wrinkles smooth, contours lift, and you notice visible improvement before leaving our office.

The real magic happens when those CaHA microspheres establish a framework within your tissue that your body recognizes as a signal to begin regenerative processes. Your cells responsible for producing structural proteins migrate to this scaffold and start producing new collagen and elastin.

Over time, your body naturally metabolizes the gel and eventually the CaHA microspheres themselves. What’s left behind is the collagen your body has generated – your own tissue… stronger and more resilient than before your Radiesse treatment.

Clinical Applications and FDA Clearances

Radiesse has secured FDA clearance. Radiesse and Radiesse (+) smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Radiesse additionally addresses volume loss in the backs of hands, and Radiesse (+) specifically targets moderate to severe jawline contour loss in adults over 21.

Strategic Anti-Aging with Radiesse

What makes Radiesse treatment in Dunwoody a preferred part of anti-aging strategies is its ability to extend beyond superficial wrinkle correction. Rather than solely address symptoms, Radiesse targets an underlying cause: progressive collagen depletion.

Beginning around age 30, your body produces approximately 1% less collagen annually. This gradual decline accumulates over decades. It manifests as thinner skin, reduced elasticity, deepening wrinkles, and overall loss of facial structure.

This is not just lab work. It’s shown to work in countless patients. Treated skin demonstrates better thickness, improved texture, increased hydration, and better overall quality. Patients frequently describe their skin as not just smoother but genuinely healthier-looking and radiant.

Treatment Versatility Across Facial and Hand Anatomy

Radiesse can be used on the face and hands. Common applications include nasolabial fold correction, marionette line smoothing, prejowl sulcus filling, chin augmentation and refinement, cheek volume restoration, jawline definition and contouring.

Each area requires distinct injection techniques, appropriate depths, and strategic product placement. At the Harley Institute, our technicians know not just where to inject but how much product to use, at what depth, and with what technique.

Your Treatment Experience

Your Radiesse injection in Dunwoody begins with a detailed consultation. We want to learn about your specific concerns, evaluate your facial anatomy, review your medical history, and establish realistic expectations aligned with what Radiesse can achieve for your particular circumstance.

The treatment typically requires 15-30 minutes depending on what areas are to be addressed, and you’ll notice results right after the treatment is complete. Your results continue improving over subsequent months as collagen synthesis progresses.

You may experience mild swelling, redness, or bruising that typically resolves within several days. Most patients resume normal activities immediately.

If facial volume loss, deepening wrinkles, or aging hands concern you, we invite you to explore how Radiesse treatment can restore youthful contours while stimulating your body's inherent regenerative capacity.

Radiesse Injection in Dunwoody, GA FAQ

Frequently Asked Question

Is hair reduction using laser permanent?

Treatment results may vary among patients. The Altus CoolGlide Laser is cleared by the FDA for Permanent Hair Reduction. The FDA defines permanent hair reduction as the long term, stable reduction in the number of hairs re-growing after a treatment regime.

Will it work on dark skin?

The Cutera CoolGlide Laser is FDA-approved for use in types I to VI skin, that is, from the whitest white to the darkest dark. Care is taken with the darker shades of skin, but excellent results can be obtained in black skin.

What does it feel like?

The laser treatment may feel like a mild sting for a fraction of a second. It has a built-in cooling tip that not only helps to protect the skin but also helps to minimize the discomfort.

How long do the treatments take?

An upper lip and chin can be done in 5 to 10 minutes. Underarms or bikini lines usually take 15 to 20 minutes. Legs and backs take longer. Very often, follow-up treatments are shorter (and less expensive) because there is much less hair to treat.

How many treatments are necessary?

This is very important to understand. Hair goes through 3 stages of development. Typically in the anagen stage, the hair will respond more effectively to treatment. At any given time, only one third of human hair is in the anagen stage. For this reason, it is necessary to treat an area at least 3 times with the treatments spaced approximately 6 weeks apart in order to see the best and longest lasting results. Darker hair will respond better, but both dark and light hair may need up to 5 treatments for maximum response and the best long-term results.

Results - What can I expect?

There is often no immediate change. Your skin may get slightly red or even develop a small crust that will peel. The laser may leave small red marks on your skin. The marks clear up in a few days. The hair that has been destroyed will not start to fall out for 2-3 weeks. Many times it will get darker and thicker just before it falls out. Don't worry if you do not see an obvious change immediately after your first treatment.
