Why Do Varicose and Spider Veins Appear as We Age?

Every day, your veins provide a pathway for blood to travel throughout your body, providing vital nutrients and oxygen to every cell. In certain areas of the body, such as your legs, blood has to be pumped upward, against gravity in order to reach your heart. Sometimes, these veins can become damaged due to extensive physical labor, pregnancy, weight gain, hormonal changes, age or certain illnesses, and blood begins to pool inside the veins. Over time, the veins will weaken or enlarge, and will appear in the form of varicose and spider veins.

How Can Dr. Harley Help Reverse the Appearance of Spider Veins and Varicose Veins?

Once upon a time, men and women simply had to suffer through life dealing with the appearance and discomfort of damaged veins. Thankfully, technology, medicine and anti-aging methods have advanced significantly in the last few years, and exciting non-surgical treatments have emerged in the process. Dr. Harley offers both laser treatments and injection sclerotherapy for Atlanta residents who are tired of struggling with spider and varicose veins.

The Benefits of Laser Treatment

Most small veins can be treated successfully with laser treatments. We use high concentrations of targeted heat that deeply penetrate the layers of skin and work to collapse veins without injuring nearby tissue. This method provides a non-invasive way to permanently collapse dysfunctional veins and requires no downtime and minimal discomfort. Patients with larger veins may need to be treated by injection sclerotherapy which involves the use of natural saline to weaken and collapse the vein. Both procedures provide permanent removal on the treated area for lasting results. However, if lifestyle and health conditions remain the same, more veins can develop in other areas, therefore additional treatments may be needed in the future to maintain a consistently youthful appearance.
