Varicose Veins, also known as Spider Veins, are one of the most frustrating aspects of getting older. Worn out, weakened veins begin to appear in visible areas such as calves, thighs, ankles, feet, arms and hands. Because of the dark blue and purple discoloration, many people become self-conscious and are uncomfortable wearing shorts, sleeveless shirts and bathing suits. Are you tired of suffering from varicose veins? If so, vein therapy can help reverse and eliminate your current varicose veins. Conventional methods often required patients to undergo surgical vein removal. Common Ailments Associated with Varicose Veins

While varicose veins present a cosmetic issue, ridding yourself of this terrible side effect of aging goes beyond aesthetics. People with severe varicose veins suffer many problems including:

  • Burning and aching in the affected area.
  • Constant itching and irritation over the veins.
  • Leg, feet and ankle swelling.
  • Inflammation
  • Dry Skin
  • Color Changes

What Causes Varicose Veins?

One way veins help circulate and carry blood upward, against gravity, towards your heart. Sometimes, these vein's valves stop working correctly and creates a pool of blood in your veins where pressure eventually builds up. The effected veins will become even more weak, and often enlarge, twist and contort, making them appear visible through the skin. Susceptibility toward developing varicose veins depends on a variety of factors including genetics, age, hormonal changes and the amount of time spent standing or engaging in long bouts of physical labor.

Laser Treatments

Smaller veins can be treated with lasers. The highly-concentrated heat will penetrate the layers of skin and collapse the veins without harming surrounding tissue. There is minimal discomfort, especially when compared to surgical vein removal, and no down time for recovery. After laser treatments, the veins will remain permanently collapsed and blood will be rerouted through healthy, nearby veins. For this reason, more varicose veins could appear in the future, so patients should take care to avoid activities and lifestyle choices that may contribute to further weakening of the veins for maximum, long lasting effects.

Injection Sclerotherapy

Larger veins sometimes require injection sclerotherapy to achieve the best results. This procedure involves injecting a safe, natural saline solution directly into the weakened vein. The contents of the injection will irritate the wall of the vein and cause it to collapse, creating permanent closure of the vein. As with laser treatments, your body's blood will be rerouted through nearby healthy veins. Sclerotherapy is also minimally invasive and non-surgical. Patients are required to wear compression dressings for a minimum of 48 hours after the treatment, but can resume normal activity immediately after the procedure.
