08Jan 2020

Why Winter Is the Best Season for Vein Treatment Our health is the single most important thing to pay attention to in this world. Even the most altruistic should care for themselves before they can fully care for others. Moreover, a healthy body is a great looking body! This is why varicose veins are so detrimental: they cause pain as well as embarrassment. This does not have to be the case, however. With winter in full swing, now is the best time for varicose vein treatment at the Harley Institute.

What Are Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins, also known as varicose or "spider veins", is a common condition that affects a fifth to a quarter of adults and even more common among women. The condition is identified by their physical qualities: twisted, bulgy, and blue veins usually found in the legs and feet. Generally on the surface, varicose can also occur deeper in interior veins. Many people who have varicose veins experience embarrassment about their appearance and pain, but can also experience other symptoms such as swelling, dry skin, cramps, or excessive bleeding.

Treatment in The Winter Helps with Healing

One of the side effects of varicose vein treatment is the discoloration of the treated area. Discoloration is especially common when the treated area is exposed to the sunlight, which is why the Harley Institute recommends patients to cover up the treated areas during the first few weeks after receiving treatment. This recommendation is particularly easy to follow in the winter months for two reasons: the days are short, and temperatures are low.

Shorter days translate into shorter and less intense exposure to the sun. Naturally, patients are exposed to less sunlight during the winter time, allowing for the treated areas to heal without the discoloration mentioned earlier.

Secondly, cold temperatures call for layers of clothing. While it can be uncomfortable to dress in long and layered clothing during the spring and summer, the harsh cold of the winter makes it a necessity. Dressing in layers keeps you warm while it simultaneously protects your treated areas from exposure to sun rays that will cause discoloration. Further, doctors recommend wearing compression stockings to allow for healthy blood flow after varicose vein treatment. What better time to wear warm compression stockings than the winter time?

Skip the Pain and Irritation of Varicose with Winter Treatment

Slight pain is common among patients with varicose veins, and this pain and irritation is especially the case during winter months. The usual explanation for the increased pain during the winter is that patients generally move around much less during the cold weather. Moving around helps to ease some of the irritation by getting your blood flowing. Receiving treatment during the winter allows you to skip this spike in pain and irritation.

Prepare for the Spring and Summer

The warmer seasons are a great time to shed the layers and exchange sweaters for dresses and shorts. However, if you have varicose veins, then you may be a little reluctant to dress down. Receiving varicose vein treatment at the Harley Institute during the winter gives you plenty of time to heal during the cold season and prepare you for the freedom of spring and summer!

If you are ready to transform your life and live freely without the pain and embarrassment of varicose veins, then give the Harley Institute a call today. Dr. Harley is a friendly expert in the field and is ready to meet you this winter!
