Develop Good Habits When Bathing

Soaking in hot water may sound tempting when the temperature drops. However, extremely hot water can dry out skin even more, making it more susceptible to the conditions of winter weather. Make sure that you're using gentle soaps and cleansers that are designed for people with sensitive skin. If you prefer to use a salt or sugar scrub to exfoliate, do so only once per week. In addition, be sure to pat your skin lightly with a fresh towel, rather than rubbing, which will help to retain moisture and prevent unnecessary irritation.

Moisturize Frequently

A quality moisturizer will be one of your best defenses against the cold, dry air. Apply moisturizer to your body as soon as you leave the bath or shower, which will help to lock in moisture long term. Look for products with ceramides, as they do an excellent job of repelling environmental contaminants, which will reduce redness and sensitivity.

Wear Soft Fabrics

When the weather outside becomes unbearably cold and wet, the most popular solution is to bundle up in long sleeve shirts, sweaters, jackets and other warm layers. Unfortunately, winter clothing is sometimes itchy and uncomfortable. Make sure that your wardrobe is full of soft fabrics like cashmere or quality cotton to keep your skin happy until spring.

Schedule Regular Appointments with an Experienced Skin Care Professional

Be sure to keep your appointments with a professional skin care specialist. They will have the training and experience needed to keep your skin glowing no matter what time of year it is. A qualified skin care provider can help you develop a customized plan that will reduce the effect of the cold climate, so your skin can remain stunning for all your holiday festivities.
