For beginners, a medical spa, or med spa, is a hybrid between a traditional day spa and a medical clinic. Think the relaxing atmosphere of a spa combined with the expertise and advanced technology of a medical practice.
In this brief article brought to you by the Harley Institute, we walk through exactly what happens during your first visit so that you know what to expect and can feel completely comfortable.
Your med spa experience actually begins before you walk through our doors. When you call to schedule your appointment, our friendly staff will ask a few basic questions. We'll want to know what concerns you'd like to address.
We'll also ask about your medical history and any medications you take. This isn't us being nosy; it's essential safety information that helps us recommend treatments that work best for your specific situation. Some medications or health conditions affect which treatments we can safely provide.
You'll likely receive paperwork to complete before your visit. Many med spas offer online forms you can fill out from home, which saves time when you arrive. Of course, you can fill them out onsite, too.
Don't rush through these forms, though. The more detailed and honest you are, the better we can tailor our recommendations to your needs. If you've tried treatments elsewhere that didn't work well, mention it. If you have specific areas that bother you, write them down.
When you arrive for your appointment, you'll immediately notice that our environment feels welcoming and comfortable. We've designed our space to put you at ease. Our reception area combines the calming atmosphere of a spa with the professionalism of a medical office.
You’ll check in at the front desk, and our staff will greet you warmly. If you haven't completed your paperwork online, they'll give you forms to fill out. Grab a seat, help yourself to water or tea, and take a few minutes to relax.
You might notice other patients coming and going. Some look completely relaxed, like they're here for their regular appointment. That'll be you soon enough.
The heart of your first visit is the consultation. This is where you meet with one of our trained professionals. They’ll review the information you provided on your forms and ask follow-up questions to better understand your goals.
This conversation is judgment-free and confidential. We want to know what bothers you, what you hope to achieve, and what concerns you might have.
Based on this assessment, your consultant will recommend specific treatments. They'll explain how each treatment works, what results you can realistically expect, how many sessions you'll likely need, what the recovery process involves, what the treatment costs, and so on.
This is your chance to ask every question that's on your mind. No question is too basic or silly. Common questions include: Does it hurt? How long does it take? When will I see results? Can I go back to work afterward? How much does it cost? What are the risks?
It doesn’t matter if you book a treatment or not; you'll leave your first visit with clear information about your options. Whether you’re interested in medical weight loss, anti-aging solutions, hair removal, or something else, we'll provide written information about recommended treatments, pricing details, and next steps.
You'll also have direct contact information for the Harley Institute team. If questions come up after you leave, know that you can call or email us at any time. We want you to feel completely informed and comfortable with any decisions you make.
