How Low Testosterone Impacts Women & Men?
01Nov 2019

How Low Testosterone Impacts Women & Men? We have all heard so many things about the sex hormones- Testosterone which are hormones we can't live without in medical terms. Both males and females need testosterone, even though high testosterone levels have been linked with aggression, heightened energy, and intense emotions. Despite all these, you should be worried if your testosterone levels are lower than the normal levels. As we grow older, we develop lower testosterone levels which result in issues such as thinning of bones, change in body shape, decreased libido, loss of muscle mass, hair loss, and insomnia. According to experts at Harley Institute, an individual having less than 300 nanograms of testosterone is believed to be suffering from low testosterone levels.

Symptoms of Low Testosterone in Men and Some Women

Hair loss, bone loss, muscle mass loss, erectile dysfunction or reduced sexual appetites, are some of the symptoms of low testosterone levels in men and women. With low testosterone levels, both men and women can develop receding hairlines or even go bald. Since testosterone aids in the production of bone and muscle mass, fractures in bones may occur, and muscle mass may decrease with depleted testosterone levels. During the depletion of testosterone levels, there may be a temporary or permanent halting of sex drive and this is characterized often by sexual dysfunction.

Other Symptoms of Low Testosterone Levels in the Body

The interrupted sleep patterns and lower energy brought about by low testosterone can trigger constant fatigue and restlessness. In some cases, the testicular sizes decrease and so are the amount of semen produced. Excess body fat, including breast enlargement in men, can also occur in men with low testosterone. Constant mood swings are another issue that can occur with men suffering from low testosterone levels. Just as the women will experience some hot flashes during the loss of estrogen, men with low levels of testosterone can also experience changes in mood. The drastic reduction in focus and mental clarity in people suffering from low testosterone levels can trigger irritation, anxiety, and depression.

Reasons Why You Should Seek Help

Strangely, low testosterone levels may not present symptoms always, and most patients will only learn about the problem after routine physical tests and blood examination. You must see your doctor as soon as you experience any of the symptoms mentioned above, for help. In many cases, you will be asked to undergo testosterone replacement therapy and this can be delivered in several ways that include; gel, patches, injections or pills. In most cases, patients will normally achieve relieve within 4 to 6 weeks of treatment.
